“Embrace your body; discover what it can do; find your natural strengths and highlight them; do things that make you feel good; become the best damn version of yourself. And encourage every other woman to do the same.”
– Nia Shanks

Sometimes you come across an article that makes you want run into the street screaming, “Yes! YES!” — fist wildly pumping in the air — because it so absolutely affirms what you believe and how you’re feeling about the world. I read this anti-body-shaming/pro-body-confidence post yesterday by health and fitness writer Nia Shanks and could barely contain my excitement.

In her post, Nia calls out the media for continuing to feed women unattainable ideas and images of what “real women” should look like. And she reminds us that “no physical feature or body shape makes you more or less valuable.”

Her story of her “short and stalky” client, which is so much like my own story,  made me stop and appreciate the “beautiful transformation” I too have enjoyed — not just in discovering my body’s abilities, but a mental transformation that has truly been life changing.

Check out Nia’s amazing article and let me know what you think. Are you ready to “refuse this nonsense” too?
